| dc.description.abstract | La canturía de velorios como tradición cultural ha trascendido a través del tiempo y
se ha convertido en una herencia de los antepasados que poblaron comunidades de
Barquisimeto y se ha mantenido en la actualidad. El presente artículo tiene como
objetivo conocer la trascendencia histórica de la canturía de velorios de acuerdo a la
experiencia de la agrupación Alma de Lara. Ello, bajo un enfoque cualitativo,
paradigma interpretativo y la postura ontoepistémica del construccionismo social,
metodología etnográfica y un diseño emergente. Los actores sociales son el director de
la agrupación, dos de sus integrantes y un conocedor de su trayectoria. La técnica de
recolección de información fue la entrevista a profundidad y la observación
participante. Los hallazgos develados fueron sometidos a categorización y
triangulación, a través de la construcción y deconstrucción de los testimonios de los
integrantes de la agrupación. Los hallazgos develados permitieron conocer que el
origen de la canturía es de las comunidades rurales, y fue instaurada en la ciudad a
través de la migración a mediados del siglo XX, los ejecutantes actuales son
descendientes de los fundadores de algunas comunidades de la periferia de la ciudad de
Barquisimeto.

| dc.description.abstract1 | The singing of wakes as a cultural tradition has transcended through time and has
become a heritage of the ancestors who populated communities in Barquisimeto and has
continued today. The objective of this article is to know the historical significance
of the singing of wakes according to the experience of the Alma de Lara group. This,
under a qualitative approach, interpretive paradigm and the ontoepistemic position of
social constructionism, ethnographic methodology and an emergent design. The social
actors are the director of the group, two of its members and someone familiar with its
trajectory. The data collection technique was in-depth interview and participant
observation. The findings revealed were subjected to categorization and triangulation,
through the construction and deconstruction of the testimonies of the members of the
group. The fi ndings revealed made it possible to know that the origin of singing is
from rural communities, and was established in the city through migration in the mid-
20th century. The current performers are descendants of the founders of some
