Abstract
El oficio de la sastrería es una de las artes manuales más antiguas conocidas en todo el mundo hispano. Organizados en cofradías y gremios, los sastres cumplieron un rol importante en la dinámica artesanal desde todos los rincones del reino español. En las colonias americanas, su talento y destreza les abrió paso entre las autoridades virreinales, ganándose el respeto de muchos. En otras latitudes, se les reconocía por su labor en la educación de huérfanos, entrenando aprendices del oficio y otorgando trabajo a los oficiales aspirantes de sastre, contribuyendo así con el comercio local. | Resumen en otro Idioma | Tailoring is one of the oldest known craft arts throughout the Hispanic world. Affiliated by “cofradías” and guilds, tailors played an important role in the dynamics of crafts arts from all corners of the Spanish kingdom. In the American colonies, their talent and skill led them on the path to getting close relations with the local authorities, earning the respect and recognition of many. In other latitudes, they were praised for the education of orphans, training apprentices in the trade, and employing young tailor officers, thus contributing to local commerce. |
