Resumo
Francisco Tamayo (1902-1985) fue un sabio multifacético que incursionó en muchas áreas del
conocimiento, entre las que destacan: ecología, conservacionismo, botánica, antropología y
arqueología, folklore, etnología, geografía, historia, literatura, y política, entre otras. Por su
dedicación a la actividad política-estudiantil se vio en la necesidad de trasladarse de Caracas a
Mérida, Venezuela y el objetivo de este trabajo es demostrar su aporte político, social y académico
en este estado del país. La investigación es documental, descriptiva, de campo y se concretó
mediante revisión bibliohemerográfica a documentos originales del Prof. Francisco Tamayo. Entre los
resultados encontramos que Francisco Tamayo realizó actividad política- estudiantil en la
Universidad de Los Andes, Mérida al formar una Asociación General de Estudiantes de Mérida que
incorpora a la F.E.V. –Seccional Mérida- donde llega a ser presidente; realizó una labor social al
publicar artículos periodísticos en el Diario Patria (1933-1935). Participó en actividades
académicas: creación del Instituto de Conservación de Recursos Naturales Renovables de la Facultad
de Ciencias Forestales. ULA. Mérida, realizó intercambios con Antonio José Uzcátegui y Pedro Durant,
entre otros; escribió ensayos periodísticos sobre Mérida y realizó estudios botánicos en Mérida,
entre otros.

| Resumen en otro Idioma | Francisco Tamayo (1902-1985) was a multifaceted sage who ventured into many areas of knowledge, among which stand: ecology, conservationism, botany, anthropology and archeology, folklore, ethnology, geography, history, literature, and politics, among others. Due to his dedication to political-student activity, he saw the need to move from Caracas to Mérida, Venezuela and the objective of this work is to demonstrate its political, social and academic contribution in this state of the country. The research is documentary, descriptive, field and was carried out by means of a bibliohemerographic review of the original documents of Prof. Francisco Tamayo. Among the results, we find that Francisco Tamayo carried out political-student activity at the University of Los Andes, Mérida by forming a General Association of Students of Mérida that incorporates the F.E.V. –Sectional Mérida- where he becomes president; carried out social work by publishing newspaper articles in the newspaper Patria (1933-1935). He participated in academic activities: creation of the Institute for the Conservation of Renewable Natural Resources of the Faculty of Forestry Sciences. ULA. Mérida, carried out exchanges with Antonio José Uzcátegui y Pedro Durant; wrote journalistic essays on Mérida and carried out botanical studies in Mérida, among others. |
