La relación Arte y Política, en los inicios de la Modernidad en Venezuela
Abstract
Las manifestaciones del siglo XX en Venezuela, han mantenido una relación estrecha con la política; así vemos como el gobierno de
turno se convierte en el gran mecenas encargado de propiciar un ambiente favorable para el surgimiento de nuevos conceptos en el
campo artístico. El gobierno de Eleazar López Contreras brinda a los artistas un clima de libertades que los llevará, por un lado, a
cuestionar las manifestaciones artísticas que hasta el momento gozaban de prestigio y por el otro, a asumir un compromiso totalmente
nuevo con la sociedad. Situación similar a la que vivieron los artistas de la década del treinta, será la que experimentarán los
artistas de los años sesenta tras la dictadura del General Marcos Pérez Jiménez; ya que al igual que los realistas sociales, crearán
un arte de marcado compromiso social que le hará frente al arte abstracto, que será patrocinado por el gobierno oficial, evidenciando
que ha pesar de su carácter político o su apoliticidad, el arte del siglo XX se expresará con voz propia.
