El Rector Diego Carbonell y su legado al devenir académico y cultural de la Universidad de Los Andes (1917-1921)
Abstract
1917 es un año de singular importancia, tanto para la ciudad de Mérida
como para la Universidad de Los Andes, ya que el Dr. Diego Carbonell
es designado Rector de dicha institución. A partir de este momento,
y hasta comienzos de 1921, cuando sale del cargo, se acometen en la
Universidad cambios profundos en el orden académico, que buscan
elevarla en el contexto nacional y proyectarla en lo científico. De igual
modo, desde el punto de vista cultural se erige el Dr. Carbonell en
catalizador de diversas actividades, que propenden a amalgamar en
el seno de dicha institución lo más graneado de la intelectualidad, a
objeto de poner a la entidad en consonancia con el espíritu de la época. En estas páginas se reflexiona sobre el legado académico y cultural
del Rector Carbonell y sus implicaciones en la vida de Mérida, y de su
Universidad.

From that time until early 1921, when the Dr. Diego Carbonell went out of his office, there were so many changes that sought increase the University in a national context and projected it as a science. Similarly, from the cultural point of view the Dr. Carbonell is erected how catalyst for various activities, which tend to lump in the breast of that institution the cream of the intelligentsia, in order to put the institution in the line with the spirit of the times. In this work there is a reflection about the academic and cultural legacy to the Rector Diego Carbonell, and its implications in Mérida and the University’life. |
