Resumen en otro Idioma | An analysis of 5,693 death certificates of Valle de La Pascua, Guárico state, during the government of Juan Vicente Gómez, (1908-1935) revealed that 58.3% of the deaths happened because of infectious diseases. This percentage can still be higher if we take into account that a 16.3% of the deaths were classified as “ill defined”. A 77.2% of the deaths happened in the age group between 0 and 40 years, which indicates a very low life expectancy. Infant mortality rate was over a 100 in 1000 at the beginning and at the end of this period, concluding that the precarious socioeconomic situation of a great part of the population, and the deficient health infrastructure, contributed to a mortality rate characteristic of a primitive demographic cycle. |
