Abstract
Este artículo trata sobre la Primera fundación de Mérida por el capitán español Juan Rodríguez Xuárez, lo cual se ha abordado como un problema histórico e historiográfico, lo cual hemos hecho confrontando los datos documentales con las ideas, afirmaciones y análisis de los diversos autores que han escrito sobre el tema.
