Résumé
A través del lente de una historia social del diseño y la cultura material, el siguiente artículo expone cómo Venezuela, al participar en siete exposiciones internacionales de 1901 a 1930, buscó representarse como una nación articulada desde el siglo anterior con el capitalismo, pretendiendo lucir organizada y consciente del valor de su pasado y de sus recursos presentes, dispuesta a modernizarse al transitar entre su vieja fórmula de «brazos y capitales» como país exportador de alimentos y productos primarios y el inicio de su nuevo «capitalismo rentístico» como país exportador de petróleo.

| Resumen en otro Idioma | Through the lens of a social history of design and material culture, the following article exposes how Venezuela, by participating in seven International Exhibitions from 1901 to 1930, sought to represent itself as a nation articulated with capitalism since the previous century, pretending to seem organized and aware of the value of its past and its present resources, and willing to modernize by moving between its old formula of "arms and capital" as food and primary products exporter, and the beginning of its new "rentistic capitalism" as an oil exporter. |
