generaciones y de diversas actividades intelectuales;

Resumen en otro Idioma | When we refer to the reforms of the Spanish education system from the late nineteenth century to the fi rst third of the twentieth century, Joaquín Costa, Fernando de los Ríos and the Free Education Institution are essential factors; however, the mention of women is almost non-existent in this context. In this sense, we thought it fair, equitable and opportune to highlight the role of women in this area during this period in the history of Spain, precisely the case of the professor in pedagogy María de Maeztu. To this end, we have judged interesting to raise the following problematic: How did the pedagogical concerns of María de Maeztu materialize during the period 1909-1936? The answer of this question has allowed us to unravel several interesting conclusions. For example, the management of the Ladies’ Residence by Maria de Maeztu was a relevant juncture for bringing young women resident students into contact with renowned intellectuals of diff erent generations and various intellectual activities; and, therefore, enable women to forge a more cultured, more refi ned and more solid academic background to face social and professional challenges at a time when machismo dominated and feminism was a utopia. |
