| es_VE |

dc.description.abstract1 | This paper’s main idea is that different conceptions of human being are underneath the independence developments of the Americas. In this research, I illustrate that through the comparison in the use made of the heliocentric analogy by the Presbyterian priest Robert Davidson (1750-1812) and Simón Bolívar (1783-1830). The thesis is that elements from their own groups are taken and that the name “Enlightenment” does not suffice as an analytical tool. For the North American author the model of Counterpoise, as described by Lovejoy clearly appears to us. Regarding Bolívar, his concept of human being is not so explicit, fitting best inside a mixture of Catholic Humanism and continental Illustration, and very far from the Anglo-Saxon scheme. To complete a likely typology of the ways in which the political competition models could be arranged, Luis López Méndez’s (1863-1891) ideas are studied. | es_VE |
