Resumen en otro Idioma | This paper presents the wood anatomical study of 17 species of the Lecythidaceae family growing in Venezuela. The studied species belongs to the following genera: Allantoma (1), Couratari (2), Couroupita (1), Eschweilera (7), Gustavia (3) and Lecythis (3). Descriptions for each specie and a dichotomous key for identification are included. The studied species can be separate in groups according to the presence or absence of minerals substances (silica and crystals). Some quantitative characteristics (pit size, diameter of vessels, rays height) can be valuable from the point of view of identification. Gustavia genus has features that differ notably from the rest of the studied material. Others genera showed enough uniformity between them, being the most valuable characteristics for identification the absence of silica in Couroupita guianensis, Gustavia spp. and Lecythis chartacea; and the absence of crystals in Eschweilera antioquensis and E. tenax. |
