Resumen en otro Idioma | In 2006, the people of Guiria, Estado Sucre, launched a serie of actions to win back their fishing port. For years they had seen their way of life adversely affected by the fact that the infrastructure of the port itself was no longer serving the interests of the vibrant fishing activities of the region. The details of this situation can be followed in a serie of musical compositions done by some members of the community. The minstrels of Guiria, through their music and lyrics, which were both traditional and contemporary, succeeded in becoming the voice of the fishing community and its protest. They also succeeded in chronicling the community’s defense of their culture and way of life. We will then give an account of both the way the fishing port crisis has inspired the poetic genius of some local musicians and composers and also the value that these compositions have for the records and for historical research. |
