Abstract
Este artículo presenta una reseña del 5º Congreso Europeo de Matemáticas celebrado en Ámsterdam, Países Bajos, en julio de 2008. Se describen aspectos relevantes del evento como la ceremonia inaugural que incluye las palabras del Presidente del Comité Organizador, el Profesor André Ran, el anuncio de los ganadores de los Premios EMS, Felix Klein y Brouwer, así como los alcances del congreso en términos de conferencias plenarias, presentaciones de afiches y mini-simposios, entre otros. También se mencionan algunas de las principales actividades sociales y culturales programadas. Finalmente, se dan algunas reflexiones sobre este importante acontecimiento matemático mundial.

It describes relevant aspects of the event as the opening ceremony that includes the speech of the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Professor André Ran, the announcement of the EMS, Felix Klein and Brouwer Prize winners, as well as the accomplishments of the congress in terms of plenary lectures, poster presentations and mini-symposia, among others. Also some of the main scheduled social and cultural activities are mentioned. Finally, a few reflections on this important worldwide mathematical event are given. |
