| es_VE |

dc.description.abstract1 | In this research, saquisaqui (Bombacopsis quinata) boards of 25 mm thick by 3m long and random with were kiln dryled by application of four treatments. Treatment 1 consisted of a conventional drying schedule, treatments 4 was a high temperature schedule at 110°C, andtreatments 2 and 3 were a combination of a conventional drying schedule applied until of the average moisture content of the charge was 25 and 35% respectively, before apllying the high temperaturedrying schedule to obtain an average final moisture content of 10% Treatments were evaluated for drying time, shrinkage, type an quanlity of drying defects, and final moisture content variability. The drying time for the high temperature schedule was 52% shorter than for the conventional drying schedule, and 28 to 36% less than for the combined schedule conventional-high temperature. Shrinkage for treatment 4showed the gratest average value in thickness and treatment 1 in width, while treatment 3 showed the greatest in length. Bow and crook were the most frequente defects in all treatments. The amount of surface checks, end cheks, and surface collapse were the greatest for the high temperature treatment when the boards had an average moisture content greater then o equal t0 35%. These defects were associated with the presence of pith and a high final moisture content. | es_VE |
