dc.description.abstractEste trabajo analiza el concepto de identidad nacional en Venezuela. Sugiere elementos para la comprensión de fenómenos étnicos involucrados en los procesos de migración e inmigración y de adaptación a la sociedad venezolana en la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Se discute la idea del mestizaje como elemento fundador de la ideología dominante sobre la identidad y la cultura venezolanas y el uso político y propagandístico de los conceptos de “identidad nacional” y “mestizaje”. Se muestra cómo la simplificación de las realidades socioculturales y étnicas del país le ha restado visibilidad social a las minorías y grupos locales o regionales, así como a inmigrantes. Se enfatiza la importancia de una adecuada comprensión del fenómeno de la identidad para entender las expresiones socioculturales e identitarias de las migraciones. dc.description.abstract1This paper analyzes the concept of national identity in Venezuela. It suggests elements for understanding ethnic phenomena involved in migration and immigration processes and adaptation to Venezuelan society in the second half of the 20th century. The idea of miscegenation (“mestizaje”) as a founding element of the dominant ideology on Venezuelan identity and culture and the political and propagandistic use of the concepts of “national identity” and “miscegenation” are discussed. It shows how the simplification of the country’s sociocultural and ethnic realities has reduced the social visibility of minorities and local or regional groups, as well as immigrants. The importance of an adequate understanding of the phenomenon of identity is emphasized to understand the sociocultural and identity expressions of migrations.es_VE
