dc.description.abstractLos odontólogos son parte del conjunto de profesionales de la salud que tienen responsabilidad de asumir una posición estratégica para identificar signos y síntomas de maltrato infantil. El principal objetivo del presente estudio fue exponer la información que manejan los odontólogos del Municipio Libertador del Estado Mérida, sobre el maltrato infantil. Se realizó una investigación descriptiva, de campo y transversal con una muestra de 108 odontólogos quienes respondieron un cuestionario mixto autoadministrado. Los análisis mostraron puntajes muy bajos (X= 10,81, SD 2,91) que indican un manejo Regular de la información (en una escala cuali-cuantitativa). Se identificó como uno de los puntos más desconocidos el compromiso ético legal del odontólogo ante el Maltrato Infantil. Se sugiere la participación de los gremios en la difusión de información sobre el tema.es_VE

dc.description.abstract1Dentists are part of the health care professionals who are responsible for the identification of signs and symptoms of child abuse. The main objective in the present study was to characterize the information about child abuse held by dentists from the Libertador Municipality in Mérida, Venezuela. A descriptive, field, transversal research was performed. The sample was constituted by 108-dentists who answered a self-administered mixt questionnaire. The analysis showed low scores (X= 10,81, SD 2,91) indicating Regular management of information (according to a qualitative-quantitative scale). One of the most unknown issues was the dentist’s ethical-legal commitment of reporting child abuse. The participation of professional guilds in the diffusion of information on the issue is suggested.es_VE
