dc.description.abstractEste artículo es una conferencia presentada en unas Jornadas de Pacificación desarrolladas por la Escuela de Criminología de la Universidad de los Andes del 23 al 25 de mayo de 2013. Empieza hablando de la complejidad de nuestro triple cerebro, el reptiliano, que compartimos con nuestros antepasados reptiles, el cual es muy vulnerable por no poseer cualidades de adaptación a nuevas situaciones; el segundo cerebro es el límbico, ubicado en nuestra estructura subcortical, es responsable por gestar las emociones y fijar la memoria. Nos hace actuar también sin reflexionar, en base a las emociones, al stress, la ansiedad y el miedo. Nuestro tercer cerebro, el más reciente, llamado Neo Cortex o Encefálico, es totalmente capaz de adaptarse a situaciones nuevas, gracias a su creatividad y su capacidad de proyección al futuro, si no se deja interferir por los otros dos cerebros, lo que lo puede llevar a situaciones de crisis y a la regresión en lugar del progreso. Desde su existencia hace un poco más de cien mil años, Homo sapìens ha vivido permanentes situaciones de conflicto y guerra, en todos los continentes que ha conquistado poco a poco, incluyendo el nuestro, e incluyendo nuestro país, Venezuela. ¿De dónde viene a nuestra especie esa permanente agresividad que se manifiesta contra los demás seres humanos e incluso contra nuestro planeta? La autora procura buscar respuestas a este problema abriendo la discusión acerca de posibles vías de solución. (23 de mayo de 2013).es_VE

dc.description.abstract1This article concerns papers presented in a conference called Lectures on Keeping the Peace under the auspices of the School of Criminology at the University of the Andes, Venezuela between 23 – 25 May 2013. It starts with a discussion of the complexity of the supposed triune brain that includes first a so called reptilian hind brain which is non-adaptive and so vulnerable. Second in this particular category is the limbic cortex located in the sub-cortical region which has the complex function of producing emotions and fixing the memory. Reaction from this centre is impulsive and triggered by emotions such as stress, anxiety and fear. The third part of this triune brain, of more recent evolution, is called the neo cortex or forebrain. It is highly adaptive, possesses a degree of creativity and is aware of the consequences of a given action, unless it is disoriented by the less evolved hind and limbic areas. When this interference occurs there is regression instead of progress. During an existence of a little more than one hundred thousand years Homo sapiens has continuously involved itself in conflictive situations and in wars of conquest, including in our own country Venezuela. From whence comes this persistently aggressive species which is antagonistic toward its own kind and even against the planet itself? The authoress attempts to find answers to this problem and opens the discussion to possible ways in which a solution can be found.es_VE
