dc.description.abstractLos tenientes justicias mayores y los corregidores fueron, junto a los ayuntamientos o cabildos, los funcionarios coloniales más importantes parta garantizar el dominio de la monarquía hispana en sus posesiones americanas, en el plano regional y local. Particularmente a la hora de preservar el orden público, administrar justicia civil y penal en primera instancia, hacer cumplir los mandamientos de las autoridades provinciales y levantar informes relevantes acerca del estado de las poblaciones bajo su mando. De allí que en este artículo examinemos la presencia y evolución de estos funcionarios en la Mérida colonial.es_VE

dc.description.abstract1The “tenientes justicias mayores” (Lieutenants older justices) and the corregidores (mayors) were, together with the municipal government, the most important colonial officials to ensure mastery of the Spanish monarchy in its American possessions, in the regional and local level. Especially at the moment to maintain the public order, to provide penal and civil justice in first instance, to write report about the populations under their command for the uppers provincials authorities, and makes to perform the commandment of this. Hence, in this article we inquire the presence and evolution of that colonial functionary in colonial Mérida.es_VE
