| es_VE |

dc.description.abstract1 | Fractures of the third metacarpal or metatarsal bone may be able to occur in equines of any race and age. These bones are particularly susceptible to fractures due to their distal localization and the fact that they are surrounded by scarse soft tisue. In this paper was reported the clinical signs, clinical diagnosis, surgical treatment, clinical evolution and the post-surgical handling of a case of transverse fracture of the third metatarsal bone in an American Quarter Horse foal referred to the Veterinary Clinic “Dr. Luís Medina”. The history, clinical signs and radiology guided the diagnose, the resolution of the case was through internal fixation using two dynamic compression plate. The clinical evolution was evaluated by the degree of lameness and the control of fracture healing by weekly radiology evaluation. This clinical case was considered to be treated satisfactory due to fact that the fracture healed uneventfully and the fold was discharged sound. | es_VE |
