| es_VE |

dc.description.abstract1 | Thirty six calculi from dogs and cats using the X-ray diffraction method were evaluated. Thirty three were from dogs and three from cats. The X-ray diffraction and chemical methods were compared. It showed significant differences detecting struvite, calcium oxalate, apatite and mix.
There were coincidences in the cystine determination. A total of 22 (67%) of the dogs calculi were composed of struvite, 2 (9%) of calcium oxalate and 2 (9%) of apatite, cystine, mix and composed respectively 100% of the cats calculi were of struvite. The most important secondary component in the urolite analysis was the urate. 70% of dogs calculi were obtained from females and 30% from males, while in cats 2 were from females and 1 from male.
The age range was between 5 and 8 years. The anatomical location of the calculi was 73% in the urinary bladder, 15% in urethra and 6% in bladder and urethra. The struvite calculi (67%) were related with infection. Staphylococcus (33%), Proteus (27%) and Streptococcus (16%) were the most isolated bacterias.
The mixed breed was the most affected breed; hematuria 69% and strangury 24% were the more observed clinical signs. | es_VE |
