The Center of Ethnological Research (CIET) was born out of the Center of Anthropological Research of ULA's Ganzalo Gonzalo Rincón Gutiérrez Archaeological Museum. It has had a legal existence since 1995 having been officially recognized by the Scientific, Humanistic, and Technological Development Council (CDHT) and the University Council of ULA.
CIET has four principal areas of research-instruction, which are the product of the dynamics which existed before its creation: Ethnology and Social Anthropology, Archaeology, Geography and Regional History, Ethnolinguistics-Anthropolinguistics. To these areas, a fifth is added which is guided by its research group: Bioanthropology.
