The Center of Research functions as such since May, 2001. Before this date, it was an Aesthetics Research Group (G.I.E) which was formed in 1996. Since then, it has carried out various International Symposiums on Aesthetics and Contemporary Art as well as various National Seminars on Art and Aesthetics.
The Center is a space of reflection. It seeks to research the manifestations of contemporary art and aesthetics, starting from the concept of art and the artist that has its origin in the fundamental philosophers: Nietzsche and Heidegger. Beginning from these philosophers, the most important lines of thought regarding aesthetics and art in the second half of the twentieth century have been constituted:
1) Those which follow the hermeneutic circle and the ontological voices of Being;
2) The post-nietzschean currents.
The Research Center develops three principal lines of research:
- Action Art,
- Contemporary Art,
- Contemporary Aesthetics,
- Ontology of Art,
- Thought on variation
